Cereus Poker continues to excel just two months after a widely publicized security flaw the company quickly fixed.

This week, Cereus has pushed aside Ongame to become the 5th biggest online poker network globally. The network is home to both UB.com and Absolute Poker, proud Gambling911.com sponsors. Smart marketing and excellent branding visibility can be attributed to the company’s steady growth.

More importantly perhaps is that Cereus has a shot at cracking the top 3 by summer’s end.

PartyPoker, the world’s number three online poker room, has witnessed a decline from just over 5000 real cash players six months ago to around 3700 this past week. It appeared to be in little danger of falling out of that spot for the next two months as the number 4 online poker network, iPoker, also continues to lag somewhat.

Cereus was only 800 real cash players behind the iPoker Network however.

The company also announced plans on Monday to build on its German player base. &qu

Day 2B of the Main Event at the 41st World Series of Poker started Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas, bringing together the survivors of Days 1b and 1d as the attrition process continues. The field of 2,412 was heavily star-laden for the $10,000 buy-in flight, but by the end of the day some of international poker’s most recognisable names were out of the competition and the Main Event.

Notable exits were multiple bracelet-holders Phil Ivey and veteran Doyle Brunson, whose son Todd was also a casualty.

Official statistics from the 41st World Series of Poker currently running at the Rio in Las Vegas indicate that through the first 56 events, there have been 65,647 entries, surpassing last year’s total entries including the main event of 60,875. And this year’s main event registration numbers have yet to be recorded!

Judging by the interest in the main event so far, the organisers expect another bumper registration field over the four Day 1 heats which started Monday with the Day 1a field already attracting 1,125 players.

Last year’s main event entries were lower than those in 2008, probably because of the depressed economic environment, but still reached 6,494 players, generating a $61,043,600 prize pool that enabled 648 entrants to cash.

With a star-laden entry field of 3,128, World Series of Poker event 47, a $1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em competition, turned out to be something of an endurance test, but after four days Shaun Busse has emerged as the winner.

It took five hours to reach the final nine during Day 3 of the event, necessitating the final table nine going into a fourth day of action with Manuel Davidian, who had been in the lead as Day 3 started, ending it as the bubble boy on the final table.

When the fourth day action kicked off Wednesday afternoon Adam White was the chip leader on a table that comprised Allan Baekke, Shawn Busse, Owen Crowe, Ilya Andreev, Chuan Shi, Jason Mann, Pekka Ikonen and Wenlong Jin.

By late Wednesday night the affair had been decided when Owen Crowe was eliminated at level 29 in second place for $300,494 after a tense heads up against Busse, who collected the bracelet and $485,791) as the winner.

Crowe had held a 2 to 1 chip lead when the heads up started and he was to increase that even further, making Busse’s achievement all the more remarkable.

By late night Wednesday only 4 players remained in event 49 – the $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em contest which had started out two days earlier with 2,543 hopefuls taking their seats.

Day 3 of the event started with 23 survivors led by Michael Linn but still plenty of opposition threats in the form of players like Mihai Manole and the UK’s Johnathan Spinks.

As was previously reported, this year, poker fans had a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on one of the more prestigious tournaments at this year’s World Series of Poker. Specifically, the tournament directors opened up fan voting to decide 20 of the participants in this year’s 27-person Tournament of Champions. The first 5 slots were reserved for past Tournament of Champion winners and the Main Event winners at the US WSOP and WSOPE, and there were also two sponsor exemptions. One of the exemptions went to the winner of an invitation only sit and go among the best poker pros to never win a WSOP bracelet.

The folks from Two Plus Two posed an interesting question this weekend: Who are the biggest losers in online poker?

Full Tilt Poker should be thrilled. Most of the biggest losers play with them.

Sure they’re the number two biggest online poker room in the world, but PokerStars has only a single biggest loser among the top 20.

Matatuk, Beardos, Brian Townsend and Patrik Antonius all rank among the top 5 biggest losers in online poker. Matutuk is down $1.5 million so far.

Other big name players in the world of online poker include Ziigmund, down over $500,000, and Josh Arieh, down more than $300,000.

These are the losing amounts during the past year. </
