Lindsay Lohan Lindsay Lohan’s jail sentence came as no surprise for those who have followed the starlet’s career over the past couple of years. Lohan was sentenced to ninety days in jail on Tuesday as a result of violating her probation.
Lohan now will have some time to get her thoughts together while serving the sentence, and another thing she may find herself doing is playing poker. Playing cards is a popular way for prisoners to pass the time, and Texas Hold’em is one of the most popular games in the world right now.
The World Series of Poker main event just began in Las Vegas on Monday, and some of the top professional players that will be taking part in the tournament have spent time in jail. Whether or not the jail time helped them hone their skills is up for debate, but the hours of playing while incarcerated could not have hurt.
Mike Matusow is one of the most recognizable names in poker. In 2004 and 2005, Matusow did jail time for possession of cocaine. he has battled his drug addiction ever since, but also has won three WSOP bracelets. His most recent win came just two years ago when he took home the bracelet for the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em 2-7 Draw event.
While many celebrities have turned up on various poker television events and at poker fundraising tournaments, Lohan is not a well-known poker player. With her celebrity status, some analysts believe that it may be worth her while to take up the game while serving her sentence.
“Lindsay Lohan is one of the most recognizable people on the planet,” said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. “If she could use her celebrity for good, it could be the start of turning her life around. While being in casinos may not be the best place for Lohan, there is little doubt that poker tournaments have become one of the biggest money-making fundraisers over the past several years.”
Lohan missed several drug and alcohol treatment appointments since her last appearance in court, which led to the judge placing her in violation of her probation. Lohan will turn herself in on July 20th, and it is likely she will have to learn the game of poker quickly if she chooses to do so. It is likely Lohan will only serve three to four weeks in jail.
